Robin Smithett Photographer
Sadly Robin passed away in November 2013. He will be much missed by the Guild.
"A dear friend and talented member of The Guild, Robin Smithett, died on Friday morning, 15th Nov. Robin will be remembered as a kind and friendly member of The Guild. Always self deprecating of his work , he was an artist with his camera and the equal of any of us. Members who knew him will feel a keen sense of loss and extend our great sympathy to his wife, Margaret. "

"I went to school with Robin, on the same school bus for 7 years and often visited his home. At that time we were both into Trains. We lost touch then until I spotted his name on photos in the magazines. Took a while to renew the acquaintance, but we met up on the towpath at a Braunston Show and remained in contact until now. I will treasure now the photo Robin took of me steering Peacock on the BCN when we were taking a tour of the BCN, and I will miss our infrequent chats at the various Shows where our paths used to cross."
"Robin will be much missed. He was such a nice chap and it was always a pleasure to catch up with him at boat shows.
I know one of his favourite canals was the Monmouthshire and Brecon. I remember writing to him once saying I was visiting this area and could he suggest where I should go. He was so helpful and sent me quite a detailed letter back saying exactly the best places. Well he was right, nothing prepared me to how stunning the canal in this area is. I believe it was a favourite spot for him to take photos. He even sent me a disc recently of this canal to help with my artwork.
That's Robin for you a really nice guy.
I often pick up canal magazines in Smiths and peep inside to see if it was Robin's photo on the front cover again and sure enough it was.
His family must have been so proud of him. He was a wonderful photographer."
